Fashion Week – Where to Eat this Wed-Sat

By on September 13, 2016

New York has one, Milan has one, LA has one…so of course Tulsa, Oklahoma should have its own fashion week! Our restaurant scene could rival that of any big city, but the fashion industry here has been slow moving. Almost like it’s waiting for the right moment. Well, I believe this year’s week of fashion put on by Runway Tulsa is that moment. I’ve been lucky enough to work closely with this organization and believe me when I say big things are coming.

They’re mission statement reads: “Promote and sustain Tulsa’s Fashion Industry by producing signature events that showcase local talent and collaborate with community partners to identify resources and opportunities that enable participants to shape their passions into a professional career.” Their vision goes beyond this week and beyond just an annual event. With designers from Tulsa, LA, and New York and an incredible staff of people with the same dream – the development of creativity in Tulsa – I don’t see this week ending without inspiring everyone in attendance.

So you should take a look at, buy VIP tickets to the Saturday finale, and prepare yourself for a fun week. And you can’t do a fashion week without doing it right – great clothes, great people, and amazing food. I’ve put together a list of where you can enjoy a pre or post fashion show meal for every event this week!

Media Night Kickoff (by invitation only) @ Lexxus of Tulsa 6 – 8pm
All VIP ticket holders for Saturday’s event get an invitation to this night. Designers will be present and so will the media. Dress up and get your picture taken while chatting with the movers and shakers of Tulsa. Local boutiques like Little Black Dress, Posh, and SoBo Co. will be showing looks from their fall collections.

Where you should eat – Paddy’s Irish Restaurant @ 9999 S Mingo

While in South Tulsa, you’ll need to check out the newest and best restaurant. Brothers Keith and Kenny Wagoner have recently brought back authentic Irish food and atmosphere to Tulsa. Go for an appetizer and a drink before the event or stop by after for a late night dinner! And if your in doubt on what to order go for the Corned Beef & Cabbage. It’s slowly simmered in their house made stock with vegetables, cabbage and colcannon or mashed potatoes.

Fashion in the Square @ Utica Square 5 – 7pm

Pick up a passport and get it stamped at all participating stores and restaurants for a chance to win free merchandise at the end of the night! The fashion show begins at 7:15 in the garden and the drawing for prizes starts at 8pm.

Where you should eat – The Wild Fork in Utica Square

I’ve never had a bad meal here. Great craft drinks, food, and DESSERT! The Wild Fork is the perfect place to dress up a little bit and enjoy a classy meal and the always incredible local art on the walls with your best friends. This is also where I go for patio dining to people watch on a on beautiful day. Maybe you’ll spot a visiting fashion designer.

Clary Sage Student Runway Show @ Cox Business Center 6:30 – 10pm

Come see what the next generation is up to with collections designed and styled by Clary Sage students.

Where you should eat – MixCo @ 3rd and Denver

MixCo has made a name for itself with it’s amazing drink selection and overall atmosphere. And now they serve a selection of small plates! Grab some drinks and food with the fashionable people in your life before heading to the Clary runway show. Do not miss the cheese plate. Many people consider MixCo’s to be the best in town.  Here is TulsaFood’s Angela Evan’s description (No one can say any better than this!).

“MixCo’s bar snack menu lets you choose your own adventure for $5 each or five items for $20. Pick from salty treats, like House Pickle Sampler or Marinated Castelvetrano Olives. Cheeses, like heavy blues and double cream brie, can be paired with various cured meats. And no cheese plate is complete without sweet treats, like white chocolate brittle studded with pistachios.”

Runway Tulsa Finale @ Cox Business Center Doors at 7pm and Event starts at 8pm

Designers showing are Alexis Monsanto from Hollywood, Caycee Black from NYC, Joshua Christensen from Project Runway Season 9, K Nicole and Mocha Butterfly from Tulsa. You don’t want to miss this! VIP’s have a special reception beforehand and get a special invite to the after party at Aloft downtown (worth the price if you ask me). Come witness the birth of the fashion industry in Tulsa.

Where you should eat – Tavolo @ 4th and Boston

Chef Proprieotr, Justin Thompson has given downtown excellence in Italian cuisine. There is something about the romance of this restaurant and fashion that just fits. Picture yourself splitting a bottle of wine as you start with the flatbread (pepperoni, crispy pancetta, tomato meat sauce, roasted garlic cloves, and mozzarella) then move to the heirloom tomato salad (oklahoma tomatoes, burrata cheese, balsamic, sea salt, and  torn basil) and then finish with arguably the best gnocchi in Tulsa (aurora sauce, crispy pancetta, broccolini, roasted bell peppers).
