I’ll Have Bacon on that Popcorn!

I’m not sure why I have not discovered this earlier in life. Such a mix just makes scene in my mind, it seems like a product you should be able to buy off the shelf or from a Boy Scout.

Interesting idea. I’m not a big fan of popcorn except at the movie theater where I can keep telling them to put more and more butter on it and then load it with as much salt as I want, but this is something I could get on board with! But what’s with the cloth napkin it’s presented with? That’s like wearing a tuxedo to eat at Bill’s Jumbo Burger!

Joebot’s Coffee Bar & Topeca’s “The Cleavon” Espresso Roast …. Nothing Like It

We where headed out of Yokozuna’s in downtown Tulsa and needed an espresso fix. After enjoying delicious Pad Thai a good rich espresso seemed like the next best thing. If you have not been to Joebot’s Coffee Bar inside Dwelling Spaces you should check it out. It is connected to the same building as Yokozuna, so we where just a few steps away.

I asked for a Macchiato, little did I know I was going to get some of the richest and most flavorful espresso I have ever tasted. This roast by Topeca is titled “The Cleavon Little” and is described as being just like the renowned (Oklahoma born) stage and screen actor this espresso is dark, chocolatey, and a little fruity.

The chocolatey flavor was overwhelming. I dreamed I was at Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory drinking from his lake of chocolate. I kept asking myself, “how could espresso have such flavor”. The fruity notes come through at the end and the flavor sticks with you for a while. Can’t wait to enjoy this treat again… soon!

The Brady Tavern Hamburger – Up Close & Personal

The Brady Tavern Hamburger has been a much anticipated and talked about burger among some of Tulsa’s foodie community. Now that it is here and has been enjoyed by so many lets talk about its. My comment will be in the comment section. Also, keep in mind that Brady Tavern has been open for a few weeks… they are still perfecting things. We are simply burger lovers discussing what we LOVE!

This is how the burger is described on the Menu

The Inside: Ground Short Rib, Chuck, and Brisket topped with Stilton & Mushroom Cognac Cream.
The outSide: House baked Challah Bun
Next to It: House-Cut Shoestring Fries with Fried Garlic & Rosemary

If you have not had a chance to visit The Brady Tavern read Brian Schwartz review titled “New Brady Tavern Downtown Tulsa is Fit for an East Coast Transplant”

Below is a quote from a comment by David James about the Burger.

Now, lets analyze the signature hamburger. The picture of the hamburger presented by Mr. Schwartz in his review does induce an elevated degree of anticipation. Reading the description of this jewel in the center of the menu almost makes it a mandatory order to gauge the restaurant. I suggest that they move this entry to a less prominent place on the menu. The bun was round, smooth and beautifully proportioned. It is a flavorful bread, baked in house and is a great background for the patty. There, something got lost. Touted as a combination of three meats, the flavor became muted somewhere in its creation. Cooked to the doneness ordered, medium rare, the meat was not dry but not juicy, due I am sure to a shortage of fat. Generous quantities of blue cheese was in the cognac laced spread on the hamburger. The cognac, being intended to mollify the intensity of the cheese, failed in its assignment. Don’t get me wrong, it was not distasteful it was simply unexceptional. It did not measure up to the tout.

An Inside look (As Ordered Medium Rare)

    • Brian 1:21 pm on January 10, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I agree with David James on this. The bun is nothing short of amazing. The idea of this burger is also beautiful. At first I thought the burger was a little dry… but then realized that it was just missing something that I could not put my figure on. Oh yeah…. fat! Introducing a little extra fat into a burger gives it a special flavor that really connects with my soul. I have found that awesome flavor in a burger = fat.

I also realize that Brady Tavern has not been open for more the a few weeks. I am sure they will prefect this baby.

I still recommend checking out Brady Tavern and trying the burger. We had a wonderful experience.

    • Michelle 9:19 am on January 11, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I disagree – I don’t think it was missing a thing! It was
the best burger I’ve ever had, fat or no fat. Granted, Ed ordered
his without Stilton, so I haven’t tried it with the cheese, but the
cognac sauce was amazing & flavorful, which complimented
the beef. In fact, I wouldn’t want anymore fat added to the burger,
since there’s plenty of fat in the sauce & the cheese. I
don’t want it to be greasy & dripping, which I’m sure is
what the chef has in mind. I can get a greasy burger anywhere in
Tulsa. Brady Tavern burger is outstanding.

We stopped by around 5:30pm last night (March 9) to finally “sample” the food at The Tree House.
I personally hate high tables but they did still have a few that were low to the floor for those of us unable to climb (Yea) We ordered the full pound of Baloney plate ($14.00) with two sides and one of the two meat dinners ($16.00) also with two sides. On the two meat dinner we ordered sliced brisket and the wait person suggested that we try the chicken over the pork so we did, but what we got from the kitchen was sliced brisket & chopped beef. First the sides – the Dill potato salad was cold and very tasty. The Baked Beans were not hot, nor were they baked (some were actually pretty raw tasting) abd they did not have any great flavor. The baloney was sliced paper thin and was only “ok” nothing to write home, the brisket was very tasty but the chopped beef didn’t have a lot of smokey flavor. We drank tea and still it cost us about $37.00 plus a tip for our meal. That’s pretty pricey for BBQ that was “average”. One thing I would suggest to the owners is improve the things you haven’t quite got right yet and think about adding a “sampler” platter with a couple of bites of each meat so people can try it all the first time and then they will know what they do & do not like the next trip! I know you can get it right if you just try! :-)
Sure hope Knotty Pine returns soon, everyone is missing the taste of REAL BBQ around here.

McNellie’s Group proud to announce the opening of Brady Tavern [PR]

We just got this Email from the McNellie’s Group! We have a review of Brady Tavern for you coming Soon!

TULSA, OK, January 5, 2011 – Brady Tavern, the newest addition to the McNellie’s Group family of pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues, is now open in downtown Tulsa. Elliot Nelson, the founder and CEO of the McNellie’s Group, describes the Brady Tavern as, “a modern interpretation of the classic neighborhood pub.”

A beautiful dark wood bar, which is the one thing the McNellie’s Group did not change when they took over the space in the old Fox Hotel building at 201 N. Main, inspired Nelson to create a drink menu unlike any other in Tulsa. The menu includes artisan beers, craft wines, hard to find whiskeys from micro-distilleries like Tuthilltown Spirits, and a pre-prohibition era cocktail list created by master mixologist Tony Collins. The signature drink, a bacon infused Old Fashioned, is a mix of bacon infused bourbon, Grade A maple syrup, orange peel and bitters.

The food menu, designed by chef Grant Vespasian, features a gourmet twist on classic pub food. Popular menu items include:

    · Tavern Burger – A proprietary grind of short rib and brisket served with a Stilton and mushroom Cognac cream on a house-baked bun

    · Roasted Chicken – Served with creamed fingerling potatoes and wilted spinach

    · Bangers & Mash – Fassler Hall Bangers, truffled potatoes and Irish whiskey gravy

Freshly baked breads and homemade desserts complement the seasonally influenced menu.

Two chef’s tables, which are literally in the Brady Tavern kitchen, allow customers to enjoy their meals from a completely different perspective. Eating amidst the action of the kitchen is a unique way for diners to watch chefs cook and experience the energy of a busy dinner service.

The Brady Tavern represents the McNellie’s Group first foray into the Brady District. Nelson said, “We’re exited to finally have a presence in the Brady Arts District, downtown Tulsa’s first entertainment district. A lot is happening in the area and we’re happy to be a part of it. The Brady Tavern will be open 7-days a week for lunch, dinner, drinks and late-night dining. Therefore, we hope the Tavern will function as a true pub and become a gathering point for people living in and around downtown.”

ANOTHER new upscale restaurant opened… and nobody told me!

Brady Tavern, Eliot Nelson’s sleek new attempt to marry pub ambiance with haute cuisine, opened last night. I wasn’t there. I’ve heard it’s inspired by Mario Batali’s Michelin-star-winning Spotted Pig Bar in New York City. The menu is not yet online, and it will change weekly, but I’m told entrees average about $15.

Get a Taste of Downtown Tulsa & My Mom’s French Toast

I just had to double share this post on here!!!

To see the full review visit the home page of TulsaFood.com or go straight to the review here> http://tulsafood.com/breakfast/get-a-taste-of-downtown-tulsa-my-moms-french-toast

Here is an excerpt from my review:

“The french toast may be comparable to your grandma or mom’s french toast. My mom made some of the best french toast, which is why I will be back to Blue Dome for some more memories of mamas breakfast. Blue Dome doesn’t seem to use any special bread they just make plain’o good french toast with an extra special touch. I would also recommend this dish to anyone wanting to get a great meal at Blue Dome Diner. It will take you back in time to a special moment…. I guess if you have any of those monuments stored in your brain.”
