We fell in love with Belly Busters after ordering the “Deimos Burger!” This burger consists of buttered Texas toast, 1 juicy beef patty with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and grilled onions. All Belly Busters burgers are served with thick slices of Texas Toast and come straight of the grill to your table. We can’t wait to try several other crazy named burgers and dogs, “puppies”, from their menu. Look for a full review coming soon on the Front Page of TulsaFood.com.

We got a hold of their menu so you can download the Belly Busters menu here.
True to its name, Belly Busters is a new burger and dog joint in Tulsa that will to fill up your belly with huge, mouth-watering grub piled high. You can also find menu items like deep fried Twinkies and Oreo cookies. Not your ordinary burger joint, Belly Busters sports a decor of movie memorabilia with a pop culture feel from the purple and green paint job. It’s one of those places that has a cozy, cool and open feel from the window-filled dinning room.

We can see Belly Busters easily becoming a top burger destination in Tulsa. We feel lucky to have stumbled upon this place just as they opened. We are now recommending it to Tulsa’s burger, Dog and deep fried food lovers to give it a shot.

Every once and a while and mainly while on road trips, I get to stop at a full service Dairy Queen store. To me, that means ice cream and burgers… the full menu. Its surprising that we only have one Dairy Queen location here in Tulsa and its a corporate looking Dairy Queen/Orange Julius shop in the Woodland Hills Mall. Not the same!

Here is what Tulsa is missing out on. If you hit the right location you will find delicious burgers and other menu items that I classify as addictive comfort food! Take for instance this chicken and gravy basket. Peppered gravy that is thick, but not too thick, Texas toast and deep fried chicken strips. You are looking at one of Oklahoma’s favorite meals.

Even better, the burger that is built for a road warrier. This burger is a top contender among fast food burgers. Hot, fresh cooked beef that’s filled with flavor. The bacon, thick and also flavorful with cheese that you can actually taste the dairy in. Bottom line is that It was a good burger, it hit the spot, and it helped me for the long drive ahead.

So where are all the Dairy Queens in Tulsa? Is Tulsa too big for a location? Do we have to many burger joints? Or maybe Tulsa’s Dairy Queen is named Queen Braum. Whatever it is as long as I know where to get one of those burgers I’ll be ok.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had some of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten at Smoke. They’ve been offering burgers as a $5 special on Monday nights, but that deal ends with the month of May. I think they have burgers on the lunch menu. I’m not sure whether they’re normally available at dinner. They might be available only in the bar area. Get them whenever and wherever you can.

Nothing but the finest for these burgers. USDA Prime. Ten years ago you couldn’t find USDA Prime anywhere in Tulsa. Beef raised in a little ranch in western Oklahoma. I think they use the best cuts too, New York strip, just like their steaks. Buns fresh from Farrell Family Bread, and if you haven’t heard of them you should. They’re one of the finest artisan bakers around. Lettuce and tomato from the Farmer’s Market. Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and pickles made in the restaurant.

The Monday burgers are normally about 6 ounces but last night I got them to make me a larger one. I ordered it very rare. You can see it in the photo above. I don’t know how they got the cheese to melt so well. On a very rare burger, even Ron Baber had problems with that. I think this deserves another shot. Look how thick and juicy this baby is.

Usually burgers made with high grade meat aren’t worth the hype. They don’t have enough fat and they are just too dry. That’s not true of this one. (And before a lot of my friends complain, I’ve heard this is true of the Brady Burger too. I’ve never ordered a Brady Burger, for each time I go there I’ve been seduced by Grant Vespasian’s other offerings.) Though I’ve heard from friends that Smoke has overcooked their burgers, they did a perfect job on mine each time I was there. I ordered very rare and that’s exactly what I got.

Just the way I like it. The outside fully cooked, even charred, the inside more or less raw but cooked enough so the fat starts to melt, yielding that rich and primal flavor. This could be the poster boy for rareburger.com. But if this is too primal for you, gentle reader, be aware that Smoke makes great desserts (and the dessert menu is huge photos on an iPad 2), so let me leave you with something sweet.

It seems new restaurants are popping up in this town faster than it takes my boy to decide he has to take a crap every time he walks into a restaurant. In other words… REAL fast (yes, my favorite part of English class was foreshadowing). While everyone else in town has been talking about all the hip new places popping up on Cherry Street and downtown, Broken Arrow has also been adding a lot of new flavor to the Yellow Pages. So as you can imagine, I was pretty darn excited to drive by the old (and crappy) Western Diner on Elm, a little ways south of Kenosha (that’s BA talk fer 71st Street) only to discover something new called Long Burger.

Now I really didn’t know how literal the name actually was until I tried it. I just figured it was owned by some people named Long, or maybe the owner was over-compensating for his manhood. However, the place is actually called Long Burger because that’s what they specialize in… Long Burgers.

You can’t really tell from what could only be described as a salad on top of this sandwich, but there actually is a decent amount of hamburger and cheese under there, along with a “Special Sauce”… hehe, that phrase makes me laugh every time! And if you’re looking for a burger, but not your normal run of the mill burger, this is something you’ve gotta try. The sandwich is more of a loose meat burger, and seasoned with what seemed to me very similar to Gyro seasoning. The Long Burger comes in 2 sizes, Medium and Large (I guess it wouldn’t make much sense to have a Small Long Burger would it?). The one I had and the one pictured above is the medium… I believe it’s 6 inches and the large one is 10 inches. I tried the medium because I was hoping it would leave room for this…

I won’t even attempt to claim that I’m an expert on Greek food. I just don’t eat it very often and this was just another reminder that I really should. I do have to say though, the idea of eating food that is packaged in tin foil is very Manly… takes me back to my days living in the dorms. I can tell you this… it was the best gyro I’ve had in the Tulsa area!

If you aren’t a fan of Gyros or Long Burgers, there really probably isn’t much of a point in going here since the only other things on the menu (at least for now) are Hot Dogs and French Fries, although by the looks of it the hot dog is pretty dang good too…

I’ll let you know how it tastes when I have it for my midnight snack.

And as you may have guessed, we’ve added Long Burger to the growing list of Places My Son Has Pooped At!

We just got this Email from the McNellie’s Group! We have a review of Brady Tavern for you coming Soon!

TULSA, OK, January 5, 2011 – Brady Tavern, the newest addition to the McNellie’s Group family of pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues, is now open in downtown Tulsa. Elliot Nelson, the founder and CEO of the McNellie’s Group, describes the Brady Tavern as, “a modern interpretation of the classic neighborhood pub.”

A beautiful dark wood bar, which is the one thing the McNellie’s Group did not change when they took over the space in the old Fox Hotel building at 201 N. Main, inspired Nelson to create a drink menu unlike any other in Tulsa. The menu includes artisan beers, craft wines, hard to find whiskeys from micro-distilleries like Tuthilltown Spirits, and a pre-prohibition era cocktail list created by master mixologist Tony Collins. The signature drink, a bacon infused Old Fashioned, is a mix of bacon infused bourbon, Grade A maple syrup, orange peel and bitters.

The food menu, designed by chef Grant Vespasian, features a gourmet twist on classic pub food. Popular menu items include:

· Tavern Burger – A proprietary grind of short rib and brisket served with a Stilton and mushroom Cognac cream on a house-baked bun

· Roasted Chicken – Served with creamed fingerling potatoes and wilted spinach

· Bangers & Mash – Fassler Hall Bangers, truffled potatoes and Irish whiskey gravy

Freshly baked breads and homemade desserts complement the seasonally influenced menu.

Two chef’s tables, which are literally in the Brady Tavern kitchen, allow customers to enjoy their meals from a completely different perspective. Eating amidst the action of the kitchen is a unique way for diners to watch chefs cook and experience the energy of a busy dinner service.

The Brady Tavern represents the McNellie’s Group first foray into the Brady District. Nelson said, “We’re exited to finally have a presence in the Brady Arts District, downtown Tulsa’s first entertainment district. A lot is happening in the area and we’re happy to be a part of it. The Brady Tavern will be open 7-days a week for lunch, dinner, drinks and late-night dining. Therefore, we hope the Tavern will function as a true pub and become a gathering point for people living in and around downtown.”

We are lucky to have a restaurant such as D’Novo in Tulsa. Their concept is very unique and I have heard a lot of raving reviews from people that have taken the D’Novo challenge. Meaning they had great results in dieting by using D’Novo’s meal delivery services.

A few menu items that I have enjoyed so far includ the Asian Soba Noodle with Grilled Chicken (9.95) and the Open Faced Grilled Bison Burger with Vine Ripe Tomatoes, Caramelized Red Onion and Mushrooms on Whole Wheat Foccacia (10.95) The burger sounds a lot better then the description, however, you have to understand that this is not a traditional hamburger. D’Novo offers lean alternatives that are still tasty.

Check them out for yourself. D’Novo is one of those restaurants that has such a interesting menu that, like me, you might want to try just about every item.
