Tulsa’s Got a New Dog House & I’m Loving It!

April 29th, 2011 by Brian McCullough – Comments (15)

You may know what I’m talking about from the famous hot-dog stands that make their way around downtown Tulsa and Peoria. This week that changes.  The Dog House is officially open in the old Phat Philly’s location (1101 South Detroit Avenue Tulsa, OK 74120). At the newly renovated brick and mortar location owner Josh and his crew serve up half pound dogs with names like Buffalo Soldier or I’ll be frank. Not your ordinary dog, these come with all the toppings that you would only dream of having on a bun.

My strategy, as always, is to ask the people behind the counter what to get and then go for it. The Tulsa Dog was their recommendation, a dog dressed with mustard, onions, peppers, bacon and Head Country BBQ sauce. They also recommended adding cream cheese and oh, they where so spot on with that. The half pound dog had a slight spice to it which is perfectly complemented with the layer of cream cheese it sits on. Next came the sweet from the relish and Head Country, with the cream cheese and dog, somehow it reminded me of dipping a jalapeno popper in sweet jalapeno jelly (fear not, this dog is not that spicy). Don’t forget the onions and mustard which are the perfect complement on any style dog. Next time I will add fresh jalapeno. Every bite had so many common flavors that blended together so well.

The new Dog House location Downtown is so much more than a small hot-dog building. They re-did the inside and added a fresh coat of doggy print paint to the outside. There are a few tables inside, but my favorite were the counters with no chairs where I hunched over as I gripped my dog, finishing every bite and even managing to get a little on my shirt. These guys are doing it right! Next time you’re downtown, do not overlook this new treasure and if it’s a nice day, check-out their back deck.

Four to five bucks for a hot dog? Pass.

I’ll happily pay $5 for an awesome dog over $2 for crap-in-a-bun any day. You get what you pay for. I’m going to have to check this out!

The Bratts are awesome, and the 1/4 all beef hotdogs are the best. This is not some small little hotdog like you get at other places! The hotdogs at the Dog House are not just a hot dog it is a meal. With any kind of topping you can think of, and make your dog the way you want is better than any other food place I can think of….I will be spending my 5 dollars for a good hearty meal at the Dog House everytime….. Keep up the good work!

Well if you’d like I can boil a Corn King frank on a camp stove and serve it in a Wal-Mart bun and sell it to you for 75 cents…

They have specialty sausages like a chipotle chicken, buffallo jalepeno cheddar, cheddar hot links, boudin, andouille, and huge buns they fill with a ridiculous amount of toppings (unlimited) and a quater pound all beef frank, or a foot long. You get what you pay for and more, I challenge you to find a better hot dog in this town. Most dogs are $4 but the tulsadog has bacon so its a 5′er

It’d not just a hot dog for $4. They are giant loaded up all beef dogs (or polish, brat, etc.), and they are muy bueno. Haters gonna hate!

I stopped by there the other day…it was awesome! One hotdog is definately a meal. I tried their Tulsa dog; love the jalapeño relish! My husband had the I’ll Be Frank; he really enjoyed it. Will have to take the kids next time and they have a kids menu. The list of toppings is huge! And even if the hotdog is $4 or $5, its only $1 to add chips and a drink. We will be back!

The Stikls have eaten their dogs at the BOK several times and they are awesome. Our favorite if the Seattle Dog. YUMMY! Good luck with your new location!

Yup…I am going to be checking this out…SOON. In my book, a proper dog is one that is a MEAL. Not some crappy little tube of the standard “lips & a$$holes” that most people think of as a hot dog. Real foodies know that you can make an amazing DINNER DOG from awesome meat, cheeses & toppings. Count me in!

Without a doubt the best dog I have ever purchased! Hands down no questions asked the best is the Buffalo Solider with heavy blue cheese. Yum yummy! I’m on my way now.

[...] and bacon and barbecue sauce and who knows what else. There’s a long loving description in Brian’s great review. But it was such a great deal I just had to add a few words here. [...]

Finally made it here Friday night for the first time, only to see on the news Saturday morning that it was there last day. I had the Mercury dog with jalepeno relish, razz sauce and cream cheese. Best dog ever…and the fries with spicy ketchup were great. I’ll have to find out where they park their food truck!
