The Land of the Misshapen Burger – Long Burger
It seems new restaurants are popping up in this town faster than it takes my boy to decide he has to take a crap every time he walks into a restaurant. In other words… REAL fast (yes, my favorite part of English class was foreshadowing). While everyone else in town has been talking about all the hip new places popping up on Cherry Street and downtown, Broken Arrow has also been adding a lot of new flavor to the Yellow Pages. So as you can imagine, I was pretty darn excited to drive by the old (and crappy) Western Diner on Elm, a little ways south of Kenosha (that’s BA talk fer 71st Street) only to discover something new called Long Burger.

Now I really didn’t know how literal the name actually was until I tried it. I just figured it was owned by some people named Long, or maybe the owner was over-compensating for his manhood. However, the place is actually called Long Burger because that’s what they specialize in… Long Burgers.
You can’t really tell from what could only be described as a salad on top of this sandwich, but there actually is a decent amount of hamburger and cheese under there, along with a “Special Sauce”… hehe, that phrase makes me laugh every time! And if you’re looking for a burger, but not your normal run of the mill burger, this is something you’ve gotta try. The sandwich is more of a loose meat burger, and seasoned with what seemed to me very similar to Gyro seasoning. The Long Burger comes in 2 sizes, Medium and Large (I guess it wouldn’t make much sense to have a Small Long Burger would it?). The one I had and the one pictured above is the medium… I believe it’s 6 inches and the large one is 10 inches. I tried the medium because I was hoping it would leave room for this…
I won’t even attempt to claim that I’m an expert on Greek food. I just don’t eat it very often and this was just another reminder that I really should. I do have to say though, the idea of eating food that is packaged in tin foil is very Manly… takes me back to my days living in the dorms. I can tell you this… it was the best gyro I’ve had in the Tulsa area!
If you aren’t a fan of Gyros or Long Burgers, there really probably isn’t much of a point in going here since the only other things on the menu (at least for now) are Hot Dogs and French Fries, although by the looks of it the hot dog is pretty dang good too…
I’ll let you know how it tastes when I have it for my midnight snack.
And as you may have guessed, we’ve added Long Burger to the growing list of Places My Son Has Pooped At!
