Who would have ever guessed that La Hacienda on Brookside has an amazing chicken sandwich? Who goes to a Mexican place and orders a chicken sandwich anyway? :p I hear they have a good burger too… try it for yourself! By the way their Chili Relleno might be the best in town!

For Real Mexican Shrimp Cocktail at Compadres

For real, Compadres Mexican Grill serves up a dang good Mexican shrimp cocktail. This is just how I like it, chunks of avocado, lime, saltine crackers with some Tapatio on top. Mexican Shrimp Cocktail and a cold cerveza is often what floats through my head on a nice Friday afternoon.

More Mexican Food Coming to Tulsa

We have spotted yet another new restaurant “Coming Soon” in Tulsa. This one is Tres Amigos Grill & Cantina which is located on the South West corner of 71st and Lewis back in the shopping center. We have heard that the restaurant is being start by 3 guys that worked at other local Mexican restaurants. Might end up being one of the best Mexican restaurants in town!

If you hear any information about the food, opening dates or anything extra special about this place, please Comment below.

Casa Frida – Pumpkin Enchiladas & Stuffed Jalapenos

I found this spot a few weeks ago while making my daily drive down Peoria. Initially I was drawn in by the cute pink sign and thought I’d stop in. Nancy greeted me with a smile and happily gave me a to go menu, which is as cute at their sign! After looking it over I decided I HAD to try it.

Their menu isn’t filled with the usual Mexican fare we find in Tulsa, they have unique items like pumpkin enchiladas and stuffed jalapenos. The salsa they serve is even different than what you may find all over town, its chunky, more like a pico de gallo and they have a few other salsas if you just ask.

I highly recommend their tacos! Their carne asada and barbacoa are perfectly seasoned and their tacos are dressed authentically with cilantro and onion on a corn tortilla. You can join them on Tuesdays for their cleverly named “Juan” dollar taco night.

Support our local restaurants and stop in soon!

Do You Like a Little Extra Heat?

Whenever eating out, especially at a Mexican restaurants I love ordering roasted Jalapenos to accent my meal. The beautiful jalapenos pictured below are from El Rio Verde and they hit the spot with a little extra HEAT! Every once and a while I run across a place that will salt then roast … those are my favorite. What about you…. like the heat???

    Fresh Salsa Coming Right Up!

I think every Friday should be national salsa and margarita day… after a hard week of work there is nothing like chillin out to something relaxing. Here is how we do our Salsa. I’d love to hear how you make yours! Please share!

    Ingredient:

    • About 6 Tomatoes
    • Half a White Onion
    • One Bunch of Cilantro
    • Few Jalapenos (Depends on how hot you like it)
    • 3 – 4 (or more) cloves of garlic
    • Half a lime (Juiced)
    • Salt (As much or little as you’d like)

    Directions:

Boil the Jalapenos until they are soft. Then take the onion, cilantro and one tomato and pop them in the food processor to get the party started. Blend for a few seconds until everything is chopped up. Next, cut up the remaining tomatoes and add them along with your garlic, salt and lime juice. Make sure to take it easy on the salt…you can always add more. Next, add a few Jalapenos and blend! Blend until your desired thickness and then taste! You may need to add more salt, jalapenos or lime depending on your taste. I recommend letting your final creation sit in the refrigerator for a day for the flavors to marinate with each other.
