Deep Fried Ribs at Kilkenny’s Irish Pub

Next time you’re at Kilkenny’s Irish Pub off Cherry Street in Tulsa, don’t miss the deep-fried ribs.  Being a rib man I was concerned they would lack the flavor I look for in a good rib, but think about it…. its pork baby! These ribs are battered, deep-fried and seasoned with basic seasonings. Served with a side of warm BBQ sauce they make the perfect pub dream come true.

That night we also ordered the meatloaf sandwich, stay away from this one. It was late and I can’t remember why it sucked, but we sent it back for more ribs :) . All I remember thinking is… they need to remake this sandwich. That was the first bad dish I’ve ever had at Kilkenny’s.

Kilkenny’s is one of my favorite restaurant in Tulsa. If you are looking for the full experience I recommend hitting them for a lunch, dinner and their underrated brunch.

Barbequed Chicken Quesadilla – Today’s Special at The Boston Deli

The Boston Deli has a interesting weekly menu featuring chalkboard specials for each day of the week. You can sign up to get the menu here via email. Each day include a variety of outright delicious and mostly innovative twists on normal dishes. Today you can order the Barbequed Chicken Quesadilla pictured below (got mine to go), sounds pretty normal right? It is far from it. With cilantro, red onion, smoked Gouda (and a few other cheeses), mushroom and a chili buttermilk drizzle this large quesadilla is packed with cheesy, gooey flavors and it will fill you up!

Today I grabbed an early lunch to go from The Boston Deli and it did not disappoint. Oh yeah and when they say Barbequed at The Boston Deli that really means smoked on a hasty-Bake Charcoal Oven. You can taste the difference… Boston Deli is the only restaurant in town that you will find something like this.

OFF THE MENU SPECIALS Tonight at Go West

Chef Doug has OFF THE MENU SPECIALS tonight:

Appetizer : Fried Green Tomato w/Mozzarella and topped w/Jumbo Lump CRABMEAT
#1 Entree : Australian Bluenose Sea Bass Pan Seared w/Crabmeat Risotto
#2 Entree : Wood Fired Elk Chops w/ Ancho Chile Mash and Prickly Pear BBQ Sauce

We had the Elk Chop last night. It was the most tender peace of meat I’ve had in a long time. The fusion of flavors brought on when I mixed the sweet apple sauce on top and the Prickly Pear BBQ Sauce put me on cloud 9, it was unforgettable. By the way… the smiley face was not done on purpose… but its still cool!

14 Minutes to Wing Run Bliss

Earlier today Tulsa Food Guy posted about wings that he loves. Which got me craving wings that I love…. Wing Run Cafe on 81st and Sheridan. Now I understand that some people don’t consider “boneless” wings… real man wings but dang I crave these wings all the time and they have been my favorite in Tulsa for years now. I do love a good bone in Wing and agree that Hooters does bring it. I often wonder where I can find the BEST local boned-in wings in Tulsa. Any ideas?

Here is a picture of the babies that i love so much!

I love how when you call in they always say that they will be ready in 14 minutes.

True, boneless wings aren’t Manly, but the boned in wings at Wing Run are tasty. If you’re going for a “true” buffalo wing I think Right Wing has the best in town. Wing Run is the most unique. But I’ll always take Hooters over everything else because I like the breaded style. If you’re going for the ultra-hot though, Wing Stop (which is also a chain) and Wings To Go probably bring the best heat. BWW has their blazin’ wings, but IMO only has atmosphere to compete with the heat you can get elsewhere.

But if you like a little heat but don’t care about the sauce… Potbellies and Crawpappies have great wings… just don’t go if you expect to take a kid in there.

I’d love to find some fantastic hot wings in town I haven’t tried… though I doubt that’s possible, I’ll keep an eye on this discussion.

If your Hasty Bake grill needs to be reconditioned, then bring it in NOW!

One thing I love about owning a Hasty-Bake Grill/Smoker is the assurance of a long life. Ive seen people grilling on 10, 20, 30 and 40 plus year old Hasty-Bake ovens. If you did not know Hasty-bake is a Tulsa founded company and makes an amazing grill … for more info visit > http://www.hastybake.com

if you are ready to have your Hasty-bake reconditioned here is some info from the headquarters.

    What you need to know:

We Only Sandblast and/or Repowder-coat grills during the month of January. All other minor grill repairs will be performed throughout the year.

Reconditioning can consist of Sandblasting and Repowder-coating your grill, patching holes or just replacing parts. It takes approximately 6-8 weeks to have your grill Sandblasted and Repowder-coated, and 2-3 weeks to have general repairs done to your grill (not including shipping times).

We recondition Hasty-Bake grills at our Plant in Tulsa, Ok. You may bring the grill in to our store for a quote or have the grill shipped to us for a quote and repairs. If you live out of town, we Do Not pay for shipping expenses for any repair/reconditioning work done to your grill. It is your responsibility to have the grill boxed and safely shipped to our warehouse. You are also responsible for the shipping charges to return the repaired grill back to you.

We Do Not “clean” any grills so please do not expect your grill to come back spotless.

As a courtesy, we ask that you clean all of the ashes out of your grill before bringing it in for a quote. You may also keep any parts at home that do not need to be repaired and/or replaced.

We can repair any grill from an original 1948 model to a more recent model.

The cost to recondition your Hasty Bake grill depends on the condition of your individual grill. We can quote any repair once we see the grill. It costs $300 to Sandblast and Repowder-coat your grill PLUS any additional labor and/or parts.

In general, if rust has penetrated through the grill, it will Not be a candidate for Sandblasting and/or Repowder-coating.

I Love Little Wieners with Head Country

Shae and I were brainstorming a treat to take to the Tulsa Wine Club meeting tonight. We just picked up this mini crock-pot at the store, with some Lit’l Smoker (AKA mini wieners) and some of Oklahoma’s own Head Country BBQ Sauce. The results are one of my favorite party offerings. Yum!
