Deep Fried Ribs at Kilkenny’s Irish Pub

Next time you’re at Kilkenny’s Irish Pub off Cherry Street in Tulsa, don’t miss the deep-fried ribs.  Being a rib man I was concerned they would lack the flavor I look for in a good rib, but think about it…. its pork baby! These ribs are battered, deep-fried and seasoned with basic seasonings. Served with a side of warm BBQ sauce they make the perfect pub dream come true.

That night we also ordered the meatloaf sandwich, stay away from this one. It was late and I can’t remember why it sucked, but we sent it back for more ribs :) . All I remember thinking is… they need to remake this sandwich. That was the first bad dish I’ve ever had at Kilkenny’s.

Kilkenny’s is one of my favorite restaurant in Tulsa. If you are looking for the full experience I recommend hitting them for a lunch, dinner and their underrated brunch.

New Belly Busters Restaurant Offering Burgers, Dogs & Deep Fired Goodies! – Menu

We fell in love with Belly Busters after ordering the “Deimos Burger!” This burger consists of buttered Texas toast, 1 juicy beef patty with cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and grilled onions. All Belly Busters burgers are served with thick slices of Texas Toast and come straight of the grill to your table. We can’t wait to try several other crazy named burgers and dogs, “puppies”, from their menu. Look for a full review coming soon on the Front Page of TulsaFood.com.

We got a hold of their menu so you can download the Belly Busters menu here.
True to its name, Belly Busters is a new burger and dog joint in Tulsa that will to fill up your belly with huge, mouth-watering grub piled high. You can also find menu items like deep fried Twinkies and Oreo cookies. Not your ordinary burger joint, Belly Busters sports a decor of movie memorabilia with a pop culture feel from the purple and green paint job. It’s one of those places that has a cozy, cool and open feel from the window-filled dinning room.

We can see Belly Busters easily becoming a top burger destination in Tulsa. We feel lucky to have stumbled upon this place just as they opened. We are now recommending it to Tulsa’s burger, Dog and deep fried food lovers to give it a shot.

Why No Real Dairy Queens in Tulsa?

Every once and a while and mainly while on road trips, I get to stop at a full service Dairy Queen store. To me, that means ice cream and burgers… the full menu. Its surprising that we only have one Dairy Queen location here in Tulsa and its a corporate looking Dairy Queen/Orange Julius shop in the Woodland Hills Mall. Not the same!

Here is what Tulsa is missing out on. If you hit the right location you will find delicious burgers and other menu items that I classify as addictive comfort food! Take for instance this chicken and gravy basket. Peppered gravy that is thick, but not too thick, Texas toast and deep fried chicken strips.  You are looking at one of Oklahoma’s favorite meals.

Even better, the burger that is built for a road warrier. This burger is a top contender among fast food burgers. Hot, fresh cooked beef that’s filled with flavor. The bacon, thick and also flavorful with cheese that you can actually taste the dairy in. Bottom line is that It was a good burger, it hit the spot, and it helped me for the long drive ahead.

So where are all the Dairy Queens in Tulsa? Is Tulsa too big for a location? Do we have to many burger joints? Or maybe Tulsa’s Dairy Queen is named Queen Braum. Whatever it is as long as I know where to get one of those burgers I’ll be ok.

Oh, I feel your pain. I miss a full Dairy Queen menu almost as much as I miss Dunkin Donuts (which also is strangely missing from Tulsa… Anyone have an explanation for that?) And no, Tulsa isn’t too big for a Dairy Queen. I grew up in a very populated part of Connecticut, and there was a DQ there.

Found a Dairy Queen recently in Gulfport, MS and of course had to make a stop. Gulfport’s stop signs are Waffle House…I have never seen so many Waffle House’s in my entire life!! I think there was one every mile or so down Beach Blvd. Crazy!!

You all must not be very old or must all be from out-of-state. Tulsa did used to have REAL Dairy Queens. I have many fond childhood memories from Dairy Queen. I loved everything there, but every trip meant a Dilly Bar – those were my absolute favorite thing. Also, both of my older sisters used to manage Dairy Queens when they were younger. I can’t remember how many locations we had, nor can I remember why they closed. But yeah, I saw this and I just had to say something… we did used to have REAL Dairy Queens here… not just that sad excuse in the mall.
To Ed Davis – Yay! I’m so glad to hear that you’ve brought a real Dairy Queen back to the Tulsa area. Broken Arrow works for me!

Barbequed Chicken Quesadilla – Today’s Special at The Boston Deli

The Boston Deli has a interesting weekly menu featuring chalkboard specials for each day of the week. You can sign up to get the menu here via email. Each day include a variety of outright delicious and mostly innovative twists on normal dishes. Today you can order the Barbequed Chicken Quesadilla pictured below (got mine to go), sounds pretty normal right? It is far from it. With cilantro, red onion, smoked Gouda (and a few other cheeses), mushroom and a chili buttermilk drizzle this large quesadilla is packed with cheesy, gooey flavors and it will fill you up!

Today I grabbed an early lunch to go from The Boston Deli and it did not disappoint. Oh yeah and when they say Barbequed at The Boston Deli that really means smoked on a hasty-Bake Charcoal Oven. You can taste the difference… Boston Deli is the only restaurant in town that you will find something like this.

CherryBerry is my all time favorite! Their yogurt is a real dairy product that I know is a healthy option, not just a powder mix like most of the competitors. They also offer by far the most toppings with all the unlimited fruits, nuts, candies, cereals, gummies, bobas (so cool!), waffles, and syrups! The atmosphere is great, too! My friends and I like to just hang out inside or even on the patio! (Sometimes I even go for round two of my favorite yogurt flavors while we are there!)

CherryBerry rotates their flavors on a regular basis, which means I get to try a new flavor of Kosher yogurt every time I come in! • Melissa 11:17 am on July 11, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Yolotti is so yummy!!!!! And they get their product directly from the dairy so you know it’s not powder–I asked the owner himself. Who knows what is in other people’s yogurt.

Plus Yolotti has 6 live and active cultures. Cherryberry and others only have 4 or less! Check their websites.

      • Ashley 9:00 pm on July 11, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Just to let you know, yolotti won’t even tell you where they buy there frozen yogurt from so them telling you it has “six” live and active ingredients is meaningless with no proof.

          I don’t find that fact meaningless…

        • Melissa 11:46 am on July 12, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I thought I just said they get it directly from the dairy… and I’ve seen their nutritional documentation.

          • Jeff 7:16 pm on July 12, 2011 Permalink | Reply

“From the dairy” means nothing. You need to know the actual name of the farm for it to be reputable. Otherwise it could be a powdered yogurt and you don’t even know!

            • Max 12:36 pm on July 13, 2011 Permalink

I could open up a frozen yogurt store tomorrow and tell everyone I got the yogurt mix from Honey Hill Dairy or Big Train dairy, only to mix powder.

How can I know absolutely for sure all Menchies and Cherryberry locations don’t use powder? Well I’m taking their word for it that they use Honey Hill Dairy (and whatever Menchies says they use). Presumably you the customer is taking Yolotti’s word for it that they don’t use powder as well.

Besides, ask known beacons of the frozen yogurt world like Yogurtland, Pinkberry, TCBY, and Goldenspoon where they get their yogurt and they will also give you a response along the lines of “from the dairy.”

            • Ashley 11:56 pm on July 13, 2011 Permalink

Max I see your point, as CherryBerry proudly represents the company they recieve their products, yolotti seems rather ashamed of theirs. Peachwave and CherryBerry are the only two stores I have actually seen what it is delivered in and that it truly is a liquid.

Yolotti easily wipes away all other competition. They rotate their flavors often and have the cleanest, most modern, and inviting atmosphere. Of all the froyo places i’ve tried, their yogurt is the creamiest and their toppings taste the freshest. Their decor doesn’t make you feel like you’re walking into a kid-only environment, it’s ideal and welcoming to the whole family.

I liek Peachwave in teh mall, but only because they have a Dole Pineapple that is very similar to the Dole whips you can get in Disney World! So it’s like a little 5 minute vacation when we go!

Cherryberry IS the best on the planet. That is why it is our slogan. So many locations in and around tulsa so if one store doesn’t care your favorite flavor, one close by probably does. Like started below our yogurt is real dairy made for us at a dairy factory and shipped to us in pre made containers where as other yogurt places have one powder generic flavor sent to them and it is flavored and made into yogurt in there store. Their flavor is in consistent which is one of the reasons why out doesn’t taste as delicious as cherryberry does! I can say all of this with known fact because I work at the store my parents own and we tried all other places before deciding on opening cherryberry. As for toppings, our sure offers a whopping 50 toppings to choose from including nuts, cereal, candies, pretzels, bobas, fresh fruit, syrup, mochi, real cheesecake, brownie, and cookie dougj bites, and so very much more!

This is what makes cherryberry THE BEST ON THE PLANET. Plus, we are legally addicting!

I couldn’t understand your comment Alexis because of the grammatical errors, but as far as the variety goes, most self-serve places offer the same things which you say makes Cherry Berry unique. Yolotti has 53 toppings plus coffee, refreshments, and cookies to offer something original to the frozen yogurt experience. Yolotti also has free wifi, board games, and tv’s while you sit and eat your yogurt. To me, it is a more fun place to be in because of all of the extra stuff it has in it. The cookies are amazing and go well with your favorite soda.

        • Alexis 4:33 pm on July 11, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Sorry about the grammatical errors. I was using a cell phone and was pre-occupied. Cherryberry has many of those things too. We have TV, free wifi, incredibly comfortable couches, certain cherryberry stores do offer soda and coffee as well as water. I also don’t believe I ever said we were unique other than that our yogurt is the best out of all the other froyo places.

It’s not fine print. It’s posted on the picture and on the nutrition facts located in multiple places. Yolatti didn’t even post specific nutritional info on their website, just “typical” facts. Their nutritional info is only in the store.

            • Ashley 11:52 pm on July 13, 2011 Permalink

You have multiple options of yogurt, just like you have multiple froyo stores you can choose from. You choose what YOU want. Did you know yolatti won’t even tell you who they buy there frozen yogurt from? I called to find out so I could see what all there ingrediants were and how different all the stores yogurt is, they were the ONLY store refusing to tell, so please tell me how in the world do you know there “nutrional facts” are relevant? I think that the poll is only fair if the voters have tried every flavor. Being such a frozen yogurt fan, I have tried all of the companies, and there’s no doubt in my mind that Yolotti is leaps ahead. I know I can trust yolotti to provide the best yogurt–theirs comes from a dairy that is National certified. Also, when I’m counting calories, I love being able to see the easy and accessible labels of nutrition (calories and fat grams). The others either have confusing matrices or don’t label them at all! And as one who is calorie conscious, Yolotti makes my life much easier! I can’t wait for Brookside to open so it’s right near by!

      • Edward 12:36 pm on July 12, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Wesley, I think you meant to say “place” instead of “flavor”. But you bring up an excellent point. I was in Cherry Berry the other day, and I was curious about what the nutrition was, and when I checked out their nutrition matrix, I was very confused. I had never heard of Yolatti’s before this poll. It sounds like I will have to check it out since you said how easy it was to get a sense for nutrition. That’s also scary that I have been eating yogurt that is 7 grams of fat, if Leon is correct! You might as well call that ice cream. Oh well, they have a variety of nonfat flavors, from what I could glean from the chart.

Wow this is getting heated! I have to admit I like all of the top three (Yolotti, Orange Leaf, and Cherry Berry). They all have good yogurt/toppings and I’m not a gourmand for fro yo so I don’t really have a huge opinion (although I do enjoy Yolotti’s grahm cracker crust….)

The one thing that does set them apart for me however is service. In this realm Yolotti is far and above the best of the three. Their staff is so helpful, friendly, and upbeat and all greeted me with a smile. Also, I had a suggestion for a new flavor and the management came out to meet me and was great (hopefully I’ll see it there soon!) For this reason I continue to go back to support the local business and best customer service

Yolotti is by far the best frozen yogurt. All I have to say is three years ago, I got strep throat the day after I went to Peach Wave. I was totally turned off by the idea of self serve frozen yogurt because I didn’t know how often they cleaned their machines. My parents and I went to Yolotti about two months ago, and since I was skeptical of the whole thing, I asked the manager how often they cleaned and sanitized their machines. She told me they clean two machines every day so therefore, each machine is cleaned every four days. They also clean and sanitize the handles every morning and night. Now, I am addicted to Yolotti and could never imagine going anywhere else.

      • Jen 4:05 pm on July 11, 2011 Permalink | Reply

You didn’t get strep throat from Peachwave, because the incubation period for strep is longer than a few hours after exposure – typically about 3 days, although it can be anywhere from 2 to 5 days. This means that from the time you are exposed to the illness to the time you start having symptoms will be about 3 days. You got it from someone or somewhere else prior to that. Did you ask Peachwave how often they clean? Yolotti IS sounding good, but it’s really sort of irresponsible to say that you got sick as a result of eating at Peachwave, when it’s highly unlikely, and they may sanitize as frequently as others, but we don’t know.

        • Noelle 12:12 pm on July 12, 2011 Permalink | Reply

I thought about it after I posted it. I could have gotten it from anywhere, that is true. And no I didn’t ask Peachwave how often they cleaned. It didn’t cross my mind because you know after you get sick, it takes a long time to eat that food again? That’s why I never asked. =]

I LOVE CHERRYBERRY!!!!!!

    • Jen 4:00 pm on July 11, 2011 Permalink | Reply

CherryBerry is no good for me. The flavor selection didn’t excite me. I don’t like the turn-dial topping dispensers, because it makes you get too much or too little. You don’t control the portion. When we were there, it smelled like the glass cleaner they were using on every table and every chair every time someone got up. I didn’t like it being sprayed right in front of my yogurt. I wound up with chocolate (not very chocolatey) and cake batter (tasted like water), because nothing else sounded that good.

If you got strep throat the day after you went somewhere, you didn’t get it there. The incubation period is longer than 1 day. You can’t blame Peachwave for your illness. When I go to Peachwave, I smell waffle cone when I walk in the door, not cleaner. Their flavor variety is better, the intensity of flavor is FAR better. I’d sooner eat BRAUM’S frozen yogurt than CherryBerry, no matter whose church friends own it. Blah, blah, everyone has boba and mochi by now. Also, if you have to bribe people to check in at your place with free product…you might not be SO far above the competition, right? The prices aren’t “GREAT” at CherryBerry, they’re about the same.

Yolotti is sounding great. I will definitely try them out…but I don’t have problems with a store being kid-friendly, as I take my child there. If she’s going to bother grownups who can’t share their yogurt store, I won’t go there. :) Peachwave still gets my vote.

      • Shannon 2:04 pm on July 13, 2011 Permalink | Reply

Sorry to tell you this, Jen, but CherryBerry doesn’t carry Cake Batter; that’s Orange Leaf. So I would suggest to you that the next time you want to judge a business, make sure you get the business’s products correct. I would bet that you are just one of the other typical “Yolotti” fans… either the owner or one of the employees clearing out their cookies so they can re-vote. I’m suprised you didn’t say “Yolotti is YUMMY!” like all of the other posts the Yolotti employees are putting on here.

Sweetheart, I was there. I know what I got. Perhaps it was called “Birthday Cake”. It was meant to taste like vanilla cake. It was the first, and likely only time I went to the Brookside location. I can tell you that it tasted like NOTHING. I’m not a Yolotti fan, as I’ve never been there…but I do sense some resentment against them. We wouldn’t want a fair fight, now, would we? If more people like Yolotti, you’ll call “cheating”. I don’t give a rat’s tail who wins. If you read my post at all, you’d see that PEACHWAVE is my favorite so far. I wrote my initial comment, then went back and commented specifically to the person who had complained of illness from Peachwave. So yes, my two posts were similar. They were both in my own name, thank you. :) Sweetheart…you need to find something else in this world that is worth getting this upset about. It’s frozen yogurt. Go fight against real injustice in the world…there’s plenty of it. You’re just tilting at windmills, friend. :)

YOLATTI BUSTED!! I feel compelled to report this! My friend and I were discussing this ongoing yogurt debate and were laughing at how heated it’s become. We had no idea people were so passionate about their yogurt!! What’s really crazy is an employee of the Yolatti yogurt store told her they are going to win because they found a way to clear their cookies so they could vote over and over again all day. So, out of curiosity, I checked all the yogurt stores Facebook pages. Yolatti has one store in Tulsa with 312 FB fans, CherryBerry has 7 stores in Tulsa and just looking at one store that has 7110, OrangeLeaf has 3 stores in Tulsa with international 30,171 FB fans, and Peacheave has 2 stores in Tulsa with 3494 fans. So, sorry to say, Tulsa Foods. Unfortunately, I have to conclude your poll is tainted.

      • Dave 12:50 pm on July 14, 2011 Permalink | Reply

        Poll definitely looks tainted.

However, looks like Cherryberry has egg on its face too:

        1. Cherryberry has few Facebook fans to substantiate its relative polling success compared to the sheer number of Orange leaf fans.

        2. Orange Leaf was ahead of Cherryberry a couple days ago, only for Cherryberry to mysteriously pull ahead. It appears we know why now; Cherryberry was probably stuffing the ballots as well, but to a lesser extent.

        3. The Pro-Cherryberry blog post occurring during the duration of the poll by Brian Schwartz was equally suspect and unfair for the poll.

Tulsa Food should be embarrassed for using such rudimentary polling technology–would have recommended tying each user to its unique IP address and a confirmed email address. Also should be embarrassed for the pro-Cherryberry blog post.

We could limit the poll by IP addresses however, that excludes 1,000′s of readers that work within businesses that share one IP address. Whenever we do our polls that way we have to many complaints. I might jump in the data base and see if there is any suspicious activity.

A testament to why I love being part of TulsaFood.com. I got to chill with some cool people and drink beer on live tv! Awesome!
