A perfect spiral of soft dough, butter, cinnamon and icing. A buttery, sweet icing creation slightly crispy and spongy on the outsides making it equally delicious throughout. Weighing in at one half-pound, these famous cinnamon rolls will make you rethink what good is. What you may not know is that the famous cinnamon roll pictured [...]

Back in the 1960s a lot of top New York chefs became enamoured with the idea of using scientific technology to mass-produce gourmet meals for restaurant chains, thus offering the possibility of fine dining to the masses. Pierre Franey, according to Tracie McMillan in her new book “The American Way of Eating”, would sometimes thaw [...]

What Would You do if a Gorgeous Girl Invited You to Dine at Olive Garden?
July 20th, 2011 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (7)
What would you do if a really gorgeous girl invited you to dine at the Olive Garden? Some people might take a Faustian perspective and say that’s like selling your soul to the Devil. While I don’t believe that the Darden Corporation is Satan, I do think that, if Satan finds the time to laugh [...]
A Few Slider Burgers and a Chocolate Shake Make Summer Perfect
June 15th, 2011 by Brian McCullough – Comments (7)
There is something about summertime and the 21st and Yale area that brings about great feelings in Tulsa. It must be the water park, summer events at Expo Square, and memories from the old Drillers Stadium. Naturally, I associate memories with food and it seems like summertime mostly involves a burger in one hand and [...]
Upscale, Down-home Cooking & Fun Decor at Caz’s Chowhouse
April 7th, 2011 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (18)
I wanted great food. But Cathe had her teenage daughter in town, and she was bringing an exchange student who had just flown over from Japan, so she wanted a fun place. So we went to Caz’s. They claim to offer gourmet-worthy versions of typical Oklahoma dishes — “upscale, down-home cooking!” — so I thought [...]
Blarney Stones – Recipe
March 16th, 2011 by Petunia Bloom – Comments (2)
It is March, and therefore, it is time for Blarney Stones. Let me warn you, they are not for the faint of heart or those on a diet. They are comprised of butter, sugar, butter, sugar, and peanuts – salted ones. Basically, a Blarney Stone is a piece of sponge cake wrapped in butter and [...]

Lately I’ve been tooting the horn for Tulsa with every review I write. It’s an exciting time. Finally we have restaurants worthy of New York or California or any place you can name. But what if you want cuisine as elegant and refined as New York but of a kind you just can’t get in [...]
Pink House Restaurant in Claremore…Elegant, but Hearty Food
January 20th, 2011 by Brian McCullough – Comments (10)
I must admit, the name threw me off a bit. I mean Pink, are you kidding. I guess I was assuming dainty tea cups, women in funny hats and portions that couldn’t choke a horsefly. But, to my euphoria (I like that word), not only was the food incredible but the portions were hearty and [...]
Denmark Recipes: Global Table Adventure
December 22nd, 2010 by Sasha Martin – Comments (1)
Why Denmark, why? Just when I start to think the winters in Tulsa are dark and bitter cold, I learn about Denmark…and my heart breaks a little. You see, Denmark beats anything we’ve got going on in Tulsa. Situated way up in northern Europe, winter is not just a season in their great country, but [...]
Contemporary Cowboy Cuisine at Go West Restaurant
December 21st, 2010 by Whitney Shae – Comments (20)
“I think I have found my new favorite restaurant in Tulsa,” I satisfyingly proclaimed as we finished up our Jalapeno Cheesecake at the new Go West Restaurant & Saloon near New Sapulpa Road in Tulsa. Everything from the extravagant, contemporary western décor to the strong attention to detail in the silverware, I was strikingly impressed [...]

Baklava – Just Like Grandma Made It
October 22nd, 2010 by Brian McCullough – Comments (10)
One thing that blows my mind is to think back about my heritage. My genealogy is a true melting pot, as is a lot of people in the states. Throughout my life one of the cultures that has been the most evident is my Lebanese heritage. If you knew me you might never know that [...]
Freckles Frozen Custard for an Over the Top Dessert!
September 27th, 2010 by Brian McCullough – Comments (4)
Food has always been something much more than a substance that nourishes my body. It is yet to be determined whether that statement gets me in trouble with my health. Nonetheless, I have always been a person that enjoys living my life with little boundaries and always willing the go to the next level. Going [...]
Yes I Went to Outback Steakhouse Last Night
August 10th, 2010 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (2)
A narrow upward-sloping path, the sun blazing down. The path is white and dusty, everything is white with heat-wave shimmer, the sun is fierce. There’s a scent of thyme in the air from Mount Hymettus, and the constant whirr of cicadas. You reach the top of the hill and gleaming white columns sparkle against the [...]

May 21st, 2010 by Staff – Comments (2)
If you are wondering why your favorite ice-cream shop is missing it’s sign, and if your favorite ice cream shop is Maggie Moos, fear not. Tulsa’s four area Maggie Moos franchise locations are not going away. Rather, longtime owner/operator Mary-Ann Brinton is transforming these locations into a non-franchised, fast and casual concept called Stadium Subs [...]
Pizza, for Dessert!
May 10th, 2010 by Amanda Jane Simcoe – Comments (2)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Add warmed liquids and vanilla all at once to the dry mixture. Stir until well mixed, incorporating all the dry ingredients. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and set aside for about 20-25 minutes, allowing the dough to rise. Empty dough out onto a clean, floured surface. Knead by hand 6-8 times, it may be necessary to add additional flour to the surface to keep dough from sticking.
Dinner at Caramel Bakery
April 6th, 2010 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (8)
Superb food in an elegant Brookside setting for $12. What more can I say? Oh, there’s more. There’s a crucial point almost halfway through Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece “To the Lighthouse” when family and friends assemble for dinner. Sitting around the dinner table, each feels alone, distant and uncaring as they perform the social rituals of [...]
Dining at the Global Table: Argentina
March 24th, 2010 by Sasha Martin – Comments (0)
Dining at the Global Table: Argentina Think Oklahoman’s like their moo? Check this out… the average Argentine consumes 2-4 servings of beef per meal, making their per capita beef consumption double America’s. Not surprisingly, they have one of the highest rates of heart attack and stroke per capita. On Saturday I ignored these red flags [...]

Lunchtime at Nibbles Cafe
March 11th, 2010 by Whitney Shae – Comments (9)
I was very excited to try Nibbles Cafe on Memorial. I have heard good things about their cakes, especially wedding cakes. It was mid-week, and my friend and I wanted to meet up for lunch. When it is a “girlfriend lunch”, I enjoy going to cute place with a lot of personality and good food. [...]
The Mother Dough
March 2nd, 2010 by Molly Martin – Comments (3)
This week I decided to attempt the impossible. I know what you’re thinking “But Molly, you already attempted the impossible when you made macarons”. I know, I know. This is partly true. Macarons are a pass or fail creation. Either you do them the right way or they’re a complete disaster. There’s no such thing [...]
My Macaron Year
February 23rd, 2010 by Molly Martin – Comments (8)
I have this strange urge to take on projects or responsibilities I know that I am only half-capable of doing, just to prove to myself that I can do them. The harder the project and less qualified I am, the better. I love challenging myself with difficult baking tasks. For instance, two winters ago I [...]

It’s sitting in the mailbox. You know it’s been on its way for awhile, yet you secretly hoped it wasn’t going to pan out. Maybe it will got lost, and that would be a good excuse. Wrong. Oh how wrong you were this time. You take it to the bowl on the table which is [...]

Turophilia and Cheesecake
February 3rd, 2010 by Molly Martin – Comments (7)
I have two great loves, cheese and sweets. Of course, that’s not counting Jeff Martin, my baby animal-loving husband. There’s also Woody Allen and J. Crew. Okay, let’s just say I have two great food-related loves. Somehow, and I’m not sure of the reason, I fell in love with the two worst things for you. [...]
