Way too much cheese--crust not real good. Next time I went, when asked to use less cheese was told they know how to make the pizza and how much cheese to use. I guess no customizing.

Savastano's currently does not offer call ahead orders, what restaurant in Tulsa does? I do not know of any place you can call place your order and expect to be seated and eat your food while there are other people who have been sitting in a restaurant on a wait list. I totally understand where Savastano's is coming from on this policy. If you did a call ahead and then arrived to eat say 30 minutes from the time you ordered and got to the restaurant to find them on a wait. How could you expect Savastano's to just put you ahead of all those people waiting because you called your order in. Now if you tell me that you would be willing to get a seat and eat as soon as an opening came up then you would be on this site complaining that you called ahead and your food was not as hot as it should be and that it was soggy from sitting in a warmer. Trust me I know the owners of Savastano's and they know that this is an issue for some people however I feel like they do they are in a "Catch 22" position. They are damned if they do and damned if they dont. Try and look at it from a business stand point. Also "true Chicago places" did not perfect their ordering ahead like that over night and not all of the Giorando's even let you do call ahead or place your order right when you get there. Because believe it or not it is something that takes perfect timing. I know Savastano's is trying to come up with something, and I understand that you do not want to wait because of having young children. It would be nice if you could try and see their side of it. I know they are very firm on the rule because if they do it for one they have to do it for everyone. The other problem is like Brian said they have had numerous call and order then not show up. When you have a 70%food cost on a deep dish pizza it really hurts you.
I also know that they have had a service issue just like most other places. And I feel for the most part they have corrected that. The economy is tough and sometimes what you get in an interview and training is not what you get when they go on the floor. Like most places I feel they do their best to correct this.
Also if you have suggestions in regards to the call ahead policy or any way that they might be able to fix it resonably let them know. Frank, Jane, and Jennifer are always listening to what people say about their place and do the best to please as many people as they can.

I hate you guys. You are arrogant and pathetic. Normally I wouldn’t write something so rude but you definitely deserve it. If you care, I’ll explain, but I expect your arrogance will cause you to delete this before reading."

That was kind of low and immature if you ask me but you do have a right to post whatever you want about the place. Please note they never claim to copy Chicago Pizzerias. Frank just made the pizza at home for many years and many people encouraged him to open a restaurant which is what they did. Obviously you are a very angry person about this, but think about it if this was your place.....
ONE- you can not please everyone and it takes time to figure out how to get things right to please most people.
TWO- if you were the owner how would you be able to please the call ahead person and the people sitting their waiting for a table. You can not determine how long a group of people will sit at a table after eating. So that will throw the timing off of call ahead orders and you also can't tell people who just finished eating "Im sorry you have to leave now because someone has food that has been ready in the kitchen for 15minutes now."
Think about these things when you are calm and see if you can understand the issues this family owned business is having. That is all I ask of you.

Hey this isn't Savastano's website but I'll try to answer. I've been there only once and had a great pizza with very good service. Not only was our waitress good but other waitresses would run to help if I requested water, etc when my waitress wasn't around. I agree they should let you order in advance. Maybe if you offered to pay in advance, by credit card if you're on the phone? Their real worry might be that some clown will order the most expensive pizza and then 20 minutes later decide he isn't hungry, so he just doesn't show up and they are left with a wasted pizza and lose money.

I have eaten at your place for years, since you were at the old place. When I started eating there, I was actually working in Chicago, traveling back to my home in Tulsa often. So I have a taste for genuine Chicago pizza. Yours was good, not the best, but better than most other Tulsa pizzas. For the most part, I was happy to eat at your place or to carry out. The only thing I didn't like was the wait time sometimes, since you were in too small a place. Good news for you really, business was booming.

But when you moved to the new place, you just went completely wrong. At first I thought it would be great. You had more room. But that doesn't matter because your waitstaff was rude and your policies were stupid. I mean, absolutely STUPID.

I normally don't tell someone else their business. It's rude. It's not for me to say how you run your business. But after all, this is a request by you for comments, so here you go. This isn't unsolicited. You asked for it by having a comment section on your website.

I ordered two large pizzas a few weeks ago, planning to come done in. We were being joined by another couple, and wanted to make an evening of it. I have a 4 year old boy, and he is really good for about 30 minutes. But that's all he's good for, so we thought it best to order in advance.

Your waitstaff rudely told us this wasn't allowed. We took our pizza and went home. It's the last time I'll ever do business with you.

Not only was it disappointing, but I'm pretty surprised at just how stupid you are to have that policy. What good does it do you to have customers filling your booths for 30 minutes while you cook the pizza? What good is it for the customer? Neither side benefits from this policy. You have no good business reason to justify it. This policy is just plain stupid, and you enforce it with arrogance.

I'm still angry about it, and I'll be glad to see your pathetic little pizzaria go south. It damn sure won't "go north".

Real Chicago pizza shops - you know, the ones in Chicago you're trying to copy - encourage guests to phone in orders for precisely the reasons I've stated. The long wait time in the booth is bad for the business, bad for the wait staff and bad for the customer. I mean, if you want to come in and chat with guests while you wait, that's fine. Many people dine in that way, probably most. But they do encourage you to call in orders to reduce the wait time.

That's the way REAL Chicago pizzarias act. You don't, for some weird unexplainable reason.

I went to Savastano's and ordered the biggest Chicago deep dish pie. It was amazing and I ate almost half of it. (The service was great too.) Brian your review is so excellent I didn't write my own review. But I did sneak a lovely food porn photo of the pie in another review I just wrote, so check it out!

I completely agree with Mw...It is not authentic Chicago pizza, first the crust should be flaky not doughy and the layering is way off and not near enough sauce. Will not give them my business again.

I agree. We hate to go there because the servers do not care about the patrons. Of the dozen times we've eaten there, they have rarely listened to the full order before walking away and as a result they have seldom gotten the order correct. On TWO different occasions, the same waitress told us that we got the food that we ordered (implying the wrong food we got was what we ordered). If only the pizza wasn't so good...

That's too bad. Suggestive selling works and should be encouraged. Businesses do it because it does drive up sales. Waitstaff that don't do it are usually not into their job and the service usually shows that attitude.

Wow I am a lost for words, thats no pizza, thats a pie. You see for me I wouldn't enjoy that at all as good as it looks, for me a pizza has to look like a pizza thin base, great toppings. That is just way too much for me, but I will give it a try if I am ever in Chicago thats for sure, and Ill have to make sure that I have a couple of friends with me to help me eat that.

Savastano's will NEVER get my business again. Our service was fine but the pizza sucked. Deep dish! More like extra wide crust and they only offer one topping! Our pizza arrived room temperature and when we talked to the manager she stated that they do not serve their deep dish pizzas hot!?!? What!?!? Then she blamed it on us for ordering a second topping of onions and suggested that next time we come back (yeah right!) we tell them to run it throught their oven 3 times instead of 2 and a half. Wait, it's my job to tell you how to bake your pizza! Even if it had been hot it was nothing more than a pizza with a tall crust - you can't serve a true deep dish pizza on a pizza pan, it comes in a pizza pie dish so it stays hot and gets the crust perfectly crispy. We are now searching for a place in Tulsa where you can get a real deep dish pizza with more than just 1 topping!

I ate yesterday for my first Savs experience, what a let-down!

This is NOT authentic Chicago deep-dish or as Giordano's calls is: stuffed pizza.

First, the crust is completely wrong
Second, pie ingredients layered improper
Third, pie fell apart like bad lasagna
Forth, greasy!

Lastly, more importanrly, I do echo the poor service.

Don't go expecting a traditional stuffed pie and to the suckered sap who wrote this blog: www.giordanos.com they'll mail one to your house, no BS

I have to agree with some of the previous posts. My first experience at Savastano's was excellent! The pizza was great, and they have the coldest beer in town! I regret to say that since that experience other visits have not been good. The service and quality of food has been slipping.
On a recent lunch trip with co-workers we were ignored for most of the time, the food arrived at room temperature, and we were informed at the end that they could not give us separate checks, (no one asked in the beginning). The server seemed annoyed that she had to fill our drinks more than once during the long wait for food so she mumbled something under her breath about just bringing pitchers out so she didn't have to keep walking back and forth.
I would like to report that this was an isolated incident, because I really did have a great experience in the beginning with this place, but since I work close by we have been there several times hoping things would improve, but so far that has not happened.
My personal feeling is that it's a management issue, and I'm hoping it get's fixed soon!

I loved the pizza, but what I really like is the fact that none of the waitresses annoy you with suggestive selling. They ask you want you want to drink, take your order, and then don't bug you to buy dessert at the end. Excellent pizza too!

I use to enjoy eating lunch at the 111th location. The service was always good and the food was warm and tasty. I went to the new location last Friday for lunch and had a terrible experience. The individual who oversees the daily operations must have been out on vacation or something. The service was terrible and I will definitely take my business somewhere else. Mazzios, Pizza Hut, and Hideaway will get my business from now on. It seems as if the waiters they have now do not care if they provide you with quality service. I use to like the waiters at the old location. I think they can make it but some major changes will need to be made by the owners.

Worst Experience Ever!

I was a customer at the old location and never had a problem. The food was always good and the service was incredible. I went to the new location Sunday night and had the worst experience. The service was terrible. Our server did not pay attention to our table at all and you could tell she did not want to be there. The food took a long time to come out and when it did I was not impressed. I will not be back.

Our Pizza from Savastano's was the worst pizza we have ever had!! It was like taking a bite of grease mixed in with mounds of Cheese!! Not even a bit of sauce on the pizza. We were so disappointed! Our family will never go back. It was like throwing $40 bucks out the window. We were so looking forward to going to eat there too!!

The food is great!! Love the Restraunt, Hate the rude High School age Waiters who work there.

I will eat there again but will get my food to go. It is not worth tipping for bad service.

They have built a great product and continue to have a family feel even in their new location. Don't forget they have a great thin crust pizza too!! Of course the Chicago deep pan is their "bread" and butter, and is always great! Meatballs and sausages and sauces all family recipe that Mr. Savastano has perfected for the mass of eaters that come to the pizzeria. I enjoy every visit I get!

It always makes me so proud to see those small mom-n-pop restaurants make it big like Savastano's has! That other location was always crowded and I'm glad to see 'em doing so well in the big new building as well.

The deep-dish is indeed quite incredible -- so good, so big, so cheesy, and the first time I've ever been "too full" for a second slice. The thin crust is good too -- we love the "Wrigley Field."
