Cool Beats and Great Pizza

December 4th, 2009 by Staff – Comments (9)

After overwhelming response to our Tulsa Food Poll, naturally we feel like we have to visit any unvisited pizza spots. At least 102 people have voted Uncle Vinny’s as the best/most popular pizza in Tulsa, so we thought we would check it out!  Uncle Vinny’s has 2 locations.  One is located on 71st and the other is in Broken Arrow.

For lunch today, we put in our order for this awesome pizza. 14” Half Pepperoni, Half Cheese pizza. Only $12 was a great deal!

Needless to say, this was one amazing New York Style pizza. We also had the opportunity to get a shout out from D-Mil which does some free-style rapping on the side. If you want to check out more of this free-style rap action visit Pickles Pub at 51st and Sheridan on Wednesday nights. We definitely put D-Mil on the spot with this rap, so we will be returning to Uncle Vinny’s. Not just for the pizza, but for the overall experience.

MAN that pizza looks good. The BA location is right down the street from my work, I might have to try them soon.

lol Nice rap! I’ve not tried their pizza, but now I will. I’m a little partial to Umberto’s. I love that place!

I have to disagree. I love pizza and will eat just about at any pizza place once and Uncle Vinny’s does not compare to LaRoma, PieHole, JoeMomma’s or even Hideaway. The crust is too salty and the dough is too doughy. I thought that I had misjudged them the first time I ate there so after reading this blog I grabbed a slice today and tried again, but no – this pizza is icky. Go one mile north to LaRoma – the best pizza in town -hands down and the nicest people that own the shop.

I have to agree with you. We ate there last night and were highly disappointed. The “garlic knots” tasted just like the pizza crust, with little-to-no hint of garlic flavor, the pizza crust was tough, and the sauce seriously lacking flavor. However, this was only the first time we tried it and we may give it another shot, since it seems to come with high recommendations. Personally, we prefer B 52′s on down 71st in BA.

Uncle Vinnie’s is not bad, but can be super greasy at times & soggy on the bottom. La Roma’s is definitely my favorite in town.

Mario’s and Andolini’s are both great for NY style. Uncle Vinny’s is good, but sometimes the crust is stretched too thin (almost see-through). Also, Uncle Vinny’s dining room could use a serious cleaning.

La Roma and Red’s are both great for what I call “Homemade style.”

Considering New Yorkers cannot even agree on what the best slice is I think Tulsans should quit trying to say what is or is not authentic NY style.
