Hideaway’s Pizza Now Open in Broken Arrow

April 30th, 2009 by Brian McCullough – Comments (9)

I had the opportunity to preview the new Hideaway Pizza in Broken Arrow. Though it was nice to be considered, I have to say that Hideaway will never have to bribe me with free food. Hideaway is absolutely some of the best pizza I have ever had the privilege of eating. In my opinion pizza came to the United States first to New York, then Chicago and then straight down to Stillwater, OK in the 1950s with Hideaway. My favorite pizza at Hideaway is always changing. Initially it was the BBQ chicken pizza, but then I found the Tulsa Hurricane pizza. I am sure that it will eventually be replaced with another of their tasty creations.

For starters we ordered the 50/50 which is half deep fried mozzarella sticks and half fried mushrooms. I think a more appropriate name would be the 51/50 because it is just crazy good (51/50 is the police term for legally insane). For dinner I ordered a medium half BBQ chicken/half Hurricane pizza and my guest for the night ordered a medium Hurricane pizza. They were of course nothing short of amazing.

This new Broken Arrow location is visible from the highway and very convenient. You should be sure to take advantage of the new Hideaway Pizza!

Here is a little extra info about Hideaway’s Pizza

The original Hideaway Pizza location opened its doors in 1957 near the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Primarily through word-of-mouth promotion from its devoted clientele, Hideaway Pizza has expanded to offer eight additional full-service pizzerias in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metropolitan areas (including the new Broken Arrow location) and a seasonal location at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City RedHawks. Since 1957, Hideaway Pizza has been among Oklahoma’s most recognized and celebrated hometown pizzerias. For more information, please visit www.hideawaypizza.com.

Now that I’m seeing your photos, I wish I’d have strayed from my typical pepperoni pizza order and gone with the Tulsa Hurricane. I did have the 50/50 though, which was ridiculously good.

Hideaway is probably my favorite restaurant in Tulsa. SO good! We usually get half chicken florentine, half paradise pie but my favorite pizza there will always be pesto sauce w/ canadian bacon and pineapple. Sounds weird, I know, but it’s amazing!

Tasted like Dominoes pizza to me. Edible but nothing to brag about.

I use to eat it in Stillwater while at OSU, along with the Fried Mushrooms and it was very tasty.
I just hope since it was bought out by the same people who own Mazzios it doesn’t start slipping. I remember reading where they changed the crust ingredient’s. I haven’t eaten there in a while so I don’t know if that’s happened or not?

The Hideaway is not owned by anyone from Mazzios, it is owned by two friends, Brett Murphy and Darren Lister, who grew up in Bartlesville together, and the original Hideaway Pizza in Stillwater is still owned by Richard and Marti Dermer. The only thing that has happened to the crust since the duo bought the stores outside of Stillwater is that we actually started carrying the original Stillwater dough, the thin crust, as well as the tasty hand-tossed dough all the stores outside of Stillwater were selling. We wanted to give the guests the opportunity to have it the way they remembered from the original location, or to have a more fluffy and breadlike dough choice as well. Both are extremely popular and delicious.

We appreciate everyone’s support of our restaurants and our pizza selections, as well as the great pics and reviews of our specialty pies!
