Cafe Ole’ on Brookside

November 17th, 2008 by Dr. Food MD – Comments (4)

I haven’t been to Cafe Ole’ in quite awhile . . . a couple of years in fact. When I went in the other day it was like I hadn’t skipped a beat and the food was still as good as ever. Ironically enough, I overheard another couple there telling people at yet another table that they had only recently discovered Cafe Ole’ and it was their new favorite place. I’m sure, like me, they enjoy the patio and the fireplace. Just as I would have 15 years ago, I still recommend Cafe Ole for a cozy place with good food.

Great place for couples!! Its real close quarters so not a bunch of seating so great place for couples to come close and talk and have some great Tex-Mex food and you have to get the Ole Chile Con Queso with their chips great way to start off!! Their Blue Corn Enchiladas are awesome to try out!! Menu is online for you and prices are great for what you get food and atmosphere wise! http://www.cafeoletulsa.com/

I could make a meal of the chips and salsa, although the chips are ordinary, at best, without the yummy salsa.

I rarely venture from some variation on the stacked blue corn enchiladas.

    Good food.

We went there Saturday night. It was a horrible experience. It took 15mins to get a menu, 1.5hrs to receive our food, our drink-boy was high and ran into our table, and once we received the food we were not impressed. The chicken was so dry that a guest in our group choked and went to the bathroom where he had to throw up to get the chicken out of his throat. My husband liked his beef burrito, but my chicken burrito was extremely dry as well.

I went there for the first time this afternoon. Sat on the patio: lovely, good upscale crowd even at 5 PM. Ordered the blue corn stacked enchiladas ($10.75). I was surprised at how good it was. I’m sure there are places in Albuquerque that could blow it away… but we’re not in Albuquerque. The dish was vibrant, good chewy black beans and nice shredded pork, full of flavor, nicely spiced (cumin?). Lots of melted gloppy cheese on top but it was real cheese from a slice, not processed junk from a can.
