McGill’s Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary This Month in Tulsa – TulsaFood

If you’ve lived and dined in Tulsa for a while you are familiar with McGill’s.  For the last quarter of a century she has represented the standard for quality fine dining cuisine and service to both local regulars in Tulsa and traveling guests passing through. Hundreds of business deals, countless wedding proposals, and innumerable special occasions have been celebrated across a table at McGill’s.

McGill’s opened their 61st and Yale location in May 2001 and built upon the success of their first location located at 21st and Utica which opened in October, 1991. This was Tulsa’s oil boom and the concept was simple: provide Tulsa businessmen and women a place where they might enjoy prime steaks, prime rib and seafood. And a cocktail or two.

TulsaFood sat down with McGill’s partners, Greg McGill, Hal Walker and Amy Moss reflect upon memorable milestones as they prepare to celebrate McGill’s 25th Anniversary. It’s a concept that has served them well in developing a local – and even national – clientele. Greg McGill recalls a time when he visited a restaurant while out of state. As he enjoyed his meal, he overheard another diner discussing his next stop: To Tulsa to visit McGill’s restaurant. Greg remembers going over to greet the diner and introduce himself. “I had to show him my driver’s license. He couldn’t believe I was really the owner of one of his favorite restaurants.”

Such a following has been built upon a consistently delicious menu developed with the help of Executive Chef, John Briscoe. The McGill’s success story is also a tribute to the care that is shown not only the guests (many of which are on a first name basis with the partners) but to the staff of McGill’s. Briscoe has served McGill’s for twenty-four years which manifest the care that permeates throughout the restaurant. That same respectful care extends to the Tulsa community where McGill’s stays involved with numerous charity events such as sponsoring events for the Multiple Sclerosis foundation, Tulsa’s Little Lighthouse and numerous opportunities for St. John’s hospital, their neighbor near the 21st location, and St Francis hospital, their neighbor near the 61st location.

"The Novel Gardener", Maurie Traylor, lives, creates, writes, paints, gardens and cooks in Mid-Town Tulsa. Her work has appeared in Oklahoma Gardener, Edible Tulsa Magazine and The Tulsa Literary Review. When not writing or painting, Maurie works with clients in creating meaningful spaces for home and garden.
